K2 2020
Fascinating, from a singular plot of clay-limestone particularly packed with iron. 30 year old vines, ripe grapes vinified in the same way as K-lys, but aged in terracotta jars on fine lees, rather than wood. Feels much younger, taller. Lively notes of violet and black fruit, pepper and pine. Pencil shavings, horseshoes and even meteorites. Decanter for at least an hour before drinking to let it speak.

About the winemaker
Emmanuel Rybinski took over his father’s estate on the chalky heights (350m) of Villesque in 2004 with the soils top of mind. Not just clay-limestone, but Siderolithic clay-limestone, packed with iron from the tertiary age (-50 million years), Kimmeridgian clay-limestone featuring fossils from the jurassic age (-150 million years) and Stampian clay-limestone with marlstone from lake erosion (-25 million years). The wines are vinified plot by plot to express the unique geological properties of each one – it’s a great place to go for a terroir immersion, an agro-forestry tour and tasting of diverse and delicious range, all the way up to K2.
